The Reason for this Page
I have always loved sports and used to be a big fan of Pro sports.
But when those athletes got GREEDY and demanded MILLIONS a year,
that's when I lost interest in Pro sports.  No athlete  is worth millions a year.
So now I mainly follow high school sports and girls'
sports does not get very much coverage.
Ventura County has had some very good female athletes
(Sara Griffin and Amy Chellevold, just to mention 2)
and with the WWW we can still support these athletes.
In the College Softball scene there is some great pitch-by-pitch coverage
which is posted during the game and sometimes broadcast via real audio
So enjoy these links, especially during the playoffs.
Personally, I have coached Girls soccer and softball in
Ventura and Ojai and enjoy improving  the players' skills.
---------------------------------------
And a BIG THANKS to the 1982 Buena Girls'  Basketball team for showing me
that girls can play just as well as guys.  I will never forget that team.  Roy

14 year-old Kelly Greathouse, basketball player from Buena High.

We also happened to be boogey boarding at Ventura Beach at the same
time having a blast in the water.  But her athletic sister Nicole and
athletic friend Corey Sebek didn't go in because the water was too cold!

14 year-old Jaclyn Pedersen, cross country runner from Royal High.
1999
10 year-old Garen Garza, multi sports, focusing now on softball and soccer.
Garen was on our 1999 soccer team and you can tell she

Here is some info on athletes sent in from

Coach Reeves  from Nordhoff High School:
(April 1999)
I would like to mention just a few of
our runners who are presently at 4 year schools competing in
track and field and/or cross country.
Karen Bockel is running at University of
Arkansas.  She has run in the NCAA finals 4 times in cross country.  She has
also qualified for the NCAA finals in track and field and is an Academic All
American.  She is graduating this year (in 4 years) in physics.  Apparently,
she is taking a fellowship at Colorado State University.
Elaine Canchola and Bridie Hatch are at UCLA.

Both are redshirting in track and field.
Elaine ran in the NCAA cross country championships for the Bruins this past
season.  She is training for the Junior Nationals presently.  Bridie placed
in the Pac 10's last year in the 800.  She was one of the top freshmen in
the nation last year in that event.
Chryssi Gonzales is at Northwestern and

ran cross country this fall.  She had surgery on her foot this season.
Kendra Greene runs for Lake Forest in Chicago.  This past year, she went on

an educational exchange to Chile.
Terrah Chapin has run two years of cross

country at Syracuse University.  She is red shirting this season.
Jenny Hunt is a freshman at Sonoma State.  She was one of their top runners in

cross country and is running distance this spring on the track and field team.
Katie Engel is at Pacific University in Oregon.  She also has run

cross country and track and field at this school.
Ventura County is a hot bed of women's cross country.  Several Ventura

County runners are competing at D1, D2, D3 or NAIA level.  Ventura, Thousand
Oaks, Royal, Simi, Buena and other programs have had or have very fine
athletes running at the top level.
