Recap of their maiden season in 1998
Colleen made herself into Southern Miss’ starting second baseman last season by her steady play in the field. Grew more and more confident as the season went along. Had some of her best games last season against nationally ranked opponents
Coach Harris’ squad finished last season with a record of 52-9, a final national ranking of
eighth and became the first team in NCAA history to make the Women’s College
World Series in its first year, or first-year back after having its program shutdown,
 and returns its entire team including a
 pair of first team All-Americans, pitcher Courtney Blades and infielder Amy Berman.
SOUTHERN MISS 1999 (Freshman): Finished the season hitting .237 after starting 44 games at second base...Had two doubles, one triple, 13 walks and was 5-for-7 as a basestealer...Solidified herself at second base during the last two months of the season...Came up big down the stretch with clutch games against big-time opponents...Had at least one hit in pair of games with the No. 4 USL and had hits in games agianst nationally ranked Tennessee and against No. 9 Oklahoma and No. 12 Oregon State in the NCAA Regional Tournament.

HIGH SCHOOL: Her Thousand Oaks team was Marmonte League Champions as well as a CIF Southern Section Division Isemifinalist...Was a first-team All Marmonte League Player and was voted her team’s most improved player...Batted .360 overall and .310 in league games...Also delivered a .479 slugging percentage to go with her .369 on base percentage and her .968 fielding percentage...Was a Thousand Oaks High School Scholar Athlete and a second team All Ventura County league player...Was a NFCA Scholar Athlete.

TRAVEL BALL: Played two years with the Thousand Oaks Sirens and two years with the Thousand Oaks Krunch...Also played one season with the Thousand Oaks Diamonds and the Gold Coast Scorpions before playing for her current team, the Southern California Stealth.

PERSONAL: Is the daughter of Narda and Michael Spencer...Has one sister, Michelle (15)...Three of her high school teammates signed to play softball at Arizona, Oregon State and Notre Dame...Was on the math team as well as project concern and the California Scholarship Federation....Was a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Spanish Club and was the Fielder’s Choice Club President...Spent time as a math tutor and was a youth teacher for St. Paschal Baylor Church Confirmation Classes...Lists her mother and her father as her biggest role models because, "My mom is such a hard worker and is always doing things for other people. She is always trying to help someone else out. My father because no matter what - he never gives up. No matter how bad a situation could be, he’ll look for the better and go on until it is good again...Born July 18, 1980.

ON CHOOSING USM: I really liked Coach Harris and Coach Perkins, along with the campus and the number of majors Southern Miss offers.."

GOALS FOR THE 1998 SEASON: Improve my own abilities, be a good team leader and role model for the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to help out team win Conference USA."
