OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Stanford University softball players Jessica Mendoza and Kellie Wiginton have been selected to the NFCA All-American Teams, it was announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday night. A freshman outfielder from Camarillo, California, Mendoza was named First Team All-American, becoming the first-ever Cardinal player to receive that honor, while Kellie Wiginton, a junior catcher from Fresno, California, was named Second Team All-American.

In her first season of collegiate softball, Mendoza was outstanding from the start. She started the year by going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles in the season opener against Santa Clara (Feb. 10) and never stopped. The climax of Mendoza's season came three weeks later when she went 12-for-19 (.646) with 11 RBI, 11 runs scored and four home runs at the Cal State Fullerton Easton Showcase (Mar. 5-7). Following that performance, Mendoza became the first player in Stanford history to be named NFCA National Player of the Week. For the year, she was without a doubt the Cardinal leader as she placed first in numerous offensive categories, including batting (.415), hits (81), home runs (nine), RBI (57) and runs scored (38), which all established new school records.

A solid all-around performer, Wiginton was second on the team in batting (.353) and fielding percentage (.989) this past year. In addition, she had a team-high 13-game hitting streak from Apr. 10-25 and was second on the squad with 19 multiple-hit games. With this honor, it concludes a great season for Wiginton, who was also named Second Team All-Pac-10 and Second Team All-Pacific Region.
